What Are Statutory Mining Courses?
Statutory mining courses are qualifications required by law to hold specific management and supervisory positions in Queensland underground coal mines. They are not optional upskilling. Certain roles cannot be filled without them.
We offer two statutory mining courses. The Diploma of Underground Coal Mining Management (RII50920) and the Certificate IV in Underground Coal Operations (RII40420). Each targets a different level of statutory role within underground coal operations. The right qualification depends on the role you are working toward.
Both qualifications are nationally recognised and meet the requirements set out under Queensland mining legislation. They are delivered by industry-experienced trainers with real underground coal backgrounds.

Who Needs It?
Statutory qualifications are legally required for anyone holding a statutory position in a Queensland underground coal mine.
- Underground coal mine workers looking to move into a deputy or undermanager role
- Workers who hold a statutory position and need to formalise or upgrade their qualification
- Experienced mine workers progressing toward mine management responsibilities
- Workers whose statutory certificate has lapsed and need to renew to remain eligible for their role
- Mining professionals seeking the highest level of underground coal management qualification
If you hold or are pursuing a statutory role in a Queensland underground coal mine, one of these qualifications is a legal requirement.
