What Is a G2 Course?
The G2 risk management course is a nationally recognised qualification for Risk Facilitators on Queensland mine sites. It covers the unit of competency RIIRIS402E – Carry Out the Risk Management Process. It is required for workers responsible for leading or facilitating risk assessments on site.
A Risk Facilitator works alongside supervisors and management to identify hazards and manage risk across mine operations. The G2 qualification gives workers the formal skills and authority to carry out this function. It is held by Open Cut Examiners, Deputies, and supervisors across Queensland coal mine sites.
Lennon’s G2 mining courses are nationally recognised and accepted across Queensland mine sites. We also offer a G2 refresher course and a combined S123 and G2 program for workers seeking both qualifications in one program.

Who Needs It?
The G2 qualification is required for anyone taking on a Risk Facilitator role on a Queensland mine site.
- Workers moving into a Risk Facilitator role who need formal certification
- Supervisors and safety personnel responsible for running risk assessments on site
- Holders of expired G2 certificates who need to renew to stay compliant
- Workers looking to expand their qualifications and take on broader safety responsibilities
- Contractors working in risk management or safety roles on Queensland mine sites
If you are responsible for facilitating risk assessments on site, this qualification is most likely a mandatory requirement.
