What Is a Mining Refresher Course?
Mining certifications in Queensland have an expiry date. A refresher course is a shorter, targeted program that renews an existing certification and keeps a worker legally compliant to perform their role on site.
We offer a Standard 11 surface refresher, an S123 refresher course, and a G2 refresher course, as well as a combined S123 and G2 refresher for workers renewing both in one program. All three certifications expire every five years under Queensland mining legislation, and the right refresher depends on which qualification you hold and when it is due.
Letting a certification lapse means a worker can no longer legally hold their role or work on site until they renew.

Who Needs It?
Any Queensland mine worker whose S11, S123, or G2 certification is approaching expiry needs to complete the relevant refresher course.
- S11 holders whose mining induction certificate is due for renewal
- S123 certified workers needing to renew their supervisor qualification
- G2 Risk Facilitators whose certification has expired or is about to
- Workers who have been out of the industry for a period and need to get back into compliance
- Employers managing a team of workers with upcoming certification expiries
Do not wait until your certificate lapses. Renew before expiry to avoid disruption to your work.

Have Questions? We're here to Help
Here are answers to some commonly asked questions about our mining courses. What is a mining refresher course?
A mining refresher course is a shorter renewal program for workers whose S11, S123, or G2 certification is approaching or has reached its expiry date. It is designed to update your knowledge and keep you legally compliant without repeating the full original course. Refresher courses are a legal requirement under Queensland mining legislation.
How often do I need to renew my mining certification?
All three certifications — S11, S123, and G2 — expire every five years. You must complete the relevant refresher before your certificate lapses to remain eligible to work in your role on a Queensland mine site.
What happens if my mining certificate expires?
Once a certification expires, you are no longer legally permitted to perform the duties that require it. You will need to complete the relevant refresher before you can return to that role. Do not wait until your expiry date. Book your refresher in advance to avoid any gap in compliance.
Is a refresher course shorter than the original course?
Yes. Refresher courses are designed for workers who have already completed the full qualification. Most run between half a day and one day, depending on the certification being renewed. Contact the Lennon team or view the relevant course page for the duration of your specific refresher.
Can I do a refresher course if my certificate has already lapsed?
In most cases, yes. Contact the Lennon team to confirm your eligibility before booking. The sooner you act after a lapse, the sooner you can return to your role on site.
How much does a mining refresher course cost?
Course fees vary depending on the refresher type and delivery location. View We’s current fee schedule for up-to-date pricing, or contact the team directly for a quote.
Where can I complete a mining refresher course in Queensland?
We deliver mining refresher courses in Brisbane, Moranbah, and Emerald. Contact the team to confirm the best location and next available intake date for you.
