Standard 11 Surface Refresher
Description
The Standard 11 Surface Refresher is the renewal course for workers who need to update the surface component of their Standard 11 certification. This course covers surface coal operations only and is not the full S11 refresher. It is designed for workers with recent resource sector experience, including those from coal, metalliferous mining, LNG, and quarrying backgrounds.
Workers who complete the course leave with a renewed S11 certification covering the surface component, keeping them compliant and eligible to continue working on Queensland surface mine sites. This satisfies the renewal obligation for workers whose surface certification is due for update under Queensland mining legislation. Trainers bring direct field experience from working across the Queensland resource sector.

Career Opportunities After This Course
Surface Mine Worker
A surface mine worker carries out operational tasks on the surface of a coal or resource sector site, working within regulated safety and compliance frameworks. Completing the Standard 11 Surface Refresher keeps this worker compliant and eligible to continue in their role on Queensland surface mine sites.
Surface Operations Supervisor
A surface operations supervisor oversees personnel and production activities on the surface of a mine site, with responsibility for maintaining safe work conditions. Holding a current surface S11 certification is a compliance requirement for supervisors continuing in this role.
Plant Operator (Surface)
A plant operator runs heavy equipment on the surface of a mine or resource site, with safety compliance central to the role. The Standard 11 Surface Refresher maintains the certification required to continue operating plant on Queensland surface sites.
